The City of Perris is located south of the City of Riverside along the 215 freeway.
The city got its name from F.T.Perris, who was the chief engineer of the California Southern Railroad. In the 1880s the city hosted a train station that serviced six passenger trains and two freight trains daily. Also known for it flat lands and enriched soils the area agriculture grew along with its population. It incorporated in 1911.
To the east of the city is Lake Perris and the Lake Perris State Recreation Center. The lake offers picnicking, swimming, boating, and camping.
In addition to Lake Perris the area is a popular spot for skydiving and balloon rides. Railroad fans, big and small, can enjoy the Southern California Railway Museum and the Motte Museum offers an impressive car collection for auto enthusiasts. The Perris Auto Speedway dirt track revs up the excitement with their Sprint car and Stock car racing series.
The community has six neighborhoods: Central Perris, North Perris, Westside Perris, South Perris, Downtown, and North Industrial. There are 37 public schools, and 7 private and charter schools.
It’s population as of 2019 was just over 79,000 and the median age is 27 and median household income is $63,829.
